A major initiative arising from the emccan partnership is the opportunity to deliver a spectacular Regional Queen Show, bringing together the talents of carnival artists and performers from all four partners to share their skills and imagination.
Queen contestants from all four East Midland carnivals will compete in spring each year for the title of emccan Carnival Queen. The chosen Queen will represent the region at all four carnivals in the East Midlands and will also participate in a range of cultural and other events throughout the UK.
At the Regional Queen Show each participating carnival also selects their own Queen, and the excitement of the evening is enhanced with a supporting show from carnival artists and performers.
The inaugural Regional Queen Show was held 0n 25 June 2011 in Derby. An audience of seventy were given an opportunity to see thirteen potential Queens from Derby, Leicester and Nottingham, with the eventual winner being pronounced as Davinia Stewart from Nottingham portraying “the flight of the Arabian Queen”.
