Carnival training for volunteers and leaders

emccan is delivering a series of training events for carnival volunteers and leaders. As part of its initial development programme a series of short seminars have been planned to provide stimulus and inspiration to emerging leaders in each of the carnival partner networks.

Sessions will take place Tuesday 6 March from 7pm – 10pm at Derby West Indian Community Centre, Carrington St, Derby, DE1 2ND

Tuesday 13 March from 7pm -10pm at Stimpson Avenue Primary School, Stimpson Avenue, Northampton NN1 4LR

Wednesday 14 March from 6pm – 9pm at Leicester Carnival Centre, 2b Elizabeth St, Leicester LE5 4FL,

Saturday 24 March from 10am – 1.30pm at

Tun Tum Housing Association offices, Beech Avenue, Nottingham, NG7 7LW

Refreshments will be provided.

Each session will be open for up to fifteen participants and emccan is particularly keen to recruit young people who are increasingly engaging with and playing a role in carnival.

At each seminar there will be:

  • An introduction from the Carnival Leader and an update on plans for Carnival 2012.
  • A presentation session on World Carnival from carnival specialist, Pax Nindi
  • An opportunity for participants to meet the newly appointed emccan Strategic Manager
  • A facilitated feedback opportunity for participants to share their aspirations, ideas and training/development needs to inform future planning.
