Here are some of the ways that we deliver education across the region;

Paul Hamlyn Foundation

EMCCAN was able through the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to emerge themselves within the school curriculum. Through working with a main stream and a STEAM school within the Derbyshire area EMCCAN artists created a 10 week program engaging with students in a variety of subjects and finishing Phrase One with a celebratory event. This was a huge success and hopefully within the future Phase Two it will continue.

Schools

EMCCAN delivers high quality workshops and inset day training to schools across the East Midlands. Sessions cover a range of carnival arts from costume making to design and soca dance to steel pan. EMCCAN aims to embed carnival arts across schools curriculum in order to achieve their learning goals.

Arts Award

EMCCAN helps young people to achieve an Arts Award from introductory level Discover and Explore through to Bronze. Through Arts Award young peoples achievements can be recognised and they can gain UCAS points by continuing through to Silver and Gold levels.

Master Classes

Working with carnival artists from across the region, EMCCAN delivers high-quality master classes to share skills with other creatives, teachers and group leaders. Sessions can be shaped around individual group needs and are often delivered as intensive courses where participants can become confident and able to produce high-quality carnival art for themselves.

Apprenticeships and placements

EMCCAN works with a range of students and volunteers to offer worthwhile experiences across carnival and other event management, arts management, and office based skills such as marketing and administration.

Cultural Education Partnership

EMCCAN is proud to be a part of the Derby Cultural Education Partnership, working with other Derby based Arts Council England NPOs to ensure every child has access to the arts. More information about the DCEP can be found here.
